PD241: 1850’s Superbly Tinted Daguerreotype of Wealthy Man By Oliver Sarony Quarter Plate – A breath-taking daguerreotype by Oliver François Xavier Sarony who was brother of the well known American photographer Napoleon Sarony. The case is not stamped but it is without doubt a Sarony given the chair, the table cloth, the painted backdrop and the bright near neon velvet pad and liner (everyone matched to known Sarony’s). Given the lack of stamp, this may have been one Sarony took while he was an active itinerant who toured the UK from 1846 to 1856 when he opened a permanent studio in Scarborough. Original glass cleaned and archivally resealed using P90 tape.
