PD328: 1844-45c Truly Masterful and Highly Artistic Bride Wearing A White Vaile 6th Plate New York Daguerreotype by Mathew Brady or Edward Anthony In Brady Stamped Case With Rare Gilt Plaster Mat:
This is a truly masterful and artistic rendering on an early US plate. The daguerreian was a true genius and created an almost painterly portrait masterpiece! When viewed from a distance, one may even swear it was a dag of a painting but close inspection confirms that it is indeed from life. The case is stamped ‘Brady Case Maker’ and the dag displays Brady’s trademark books on the table (The top one has a date on it 1845?). The gold plaster mat is unusual and was known to have been only used by New York artists with Edward Anthony a prominent user. The plate is in nice shape with no major problems. Archivally sealed with P90. The plaster mat has a small crack at the bottom. The case is in nice shape with a repaired leather hinge.
