1843c Large 4th Plt English Daguerreotype Beard Licensee (attrib.) Paper Mat Smiling Man

Recent evidence indicates that these early quarter plate images with the blue lined paper mats were in fact taken by Richard Beard licensees. Rare & early English quarter plate size with nice hand lined original mat. Subtle flesh colour to the face, gold highlight to the chain and superb blue tinting to the eyes that match the blue border. The plate is very heavy, has 4 slightly rounded corners and flat edges. It displays a beautiful blue green patina to the peripheries which is uncommon in early English dags due to the lack of paper mats in use. Sits in large hinged case. Small spot on gents head. Impressive in the hand – scans don’t do it justice. Copper plate also has a rare No 3 stamped into the back.
